THE NEXT DAY
I know I wrote that I would set out a trap for the possum and release it somewhere.
My problem is where will I let it go?
I don’t want it to become an unwelcome problem for some body else.
Yeah, sure, there’s a river not so far away from the house, but no clear and easy way to get to it, and away from homes. And I’m not that young anymore that carrying the trap with this critter in it for any distance would be hard work indeed.
And driving a distance means I need to know where available “pit stops” are. This being the time of covid19, I am unsure of that simple need.
There’s the local animal shelter, which has a parking lot at the edge of the river, but what kind of trouble would/could I be getting myself into? Even when it’s closed to the public, there’s still staff there.
On the other side of the school next door are some homes with forests of growth, where this critter probably came from.
If I can clear out the weeds by my back gate enough so that I can go through it, I could release it near them. and feel like a bad neighbor for doing that.
Looks like I’m over-thinking this.
